Looking for an ElevenLabs alternative? Here is the comparison including the parts we lose

Most “alternative to X” pages are an advert with a table bolted on. This one names the things ElevenLabs does better than us, because a comparison that only praises itself is useless to you and obvious to everyone else. Then it gives you the one number where we win by an order of magnitude.

Where ElevenLabs is genuinely better

Expressive control. Their model takes direction — emotional delivery, emphasis, acting cues. Ours reads your text well and consistently, but it does not act. For a dramatised audiobook or a character performance, that gap is real and you will hear it.

Voice cloning. They have instant and professional cloning today, with the legal and consent machinery around it. Ours is not live yet.

Ecosystem. A much larger voice marketplace, dubbing and conversational-agent products, more integrations, more tutorials, a bigger community. If you need an API that half the internet has already written a wrapper for, that is them.

If any of those three decide your project, pay them. Genuinely — a cheaper tool that cannot do the job is not cheaper.

Where a flat rate wins, and by how much

ElevenLabs bills one credit per character. That model is fine at low volume and punishing at high volume, because your bill is a function of how much you produce. At the Creator tier, one finished hour of audio costs roughly $10.5; here the same hour costs €0.62 on Pro. That is not a discount, it is a different pricing model.

Predictability. The invoice is the same in a month where you publish four videos and a month where you publish forty. Nobody has to approve an overage.

No credit anxiety. When re-generating a line costs credits, people stop re-generating lines and ship the take that was almost right. Here you can redo a single segment — not the whole file — and it is stitched back in.

Who should not switch

You should stay where you are if you need voice cloning today, if your work depends on directed emotional performance, if you generate less than an hour of audio a month (at that volume almost any free tier is cheaper than any subscription), or if you have already built against their API and the migration cost exceeds what you would save.

The people who move and stay moved are high-volume: YouTube channels, faceless content operations, e-learning teams, narrators — anyone whose per-character bill has started to look like a salary.

Side by side. Their tariffs as published on their own pricing pages, checked on 12 August 2026.

The per-hour figure converts credits to audio at 58,000 characters per hour, the rate kreawave meters with. ElevenLabs' own page estimates ~121 minutes for the same 121,000 credits, which would make it $10.9 an hour instead of $10.5. No exchange rate is applied: they publish in dollars, we publish in euros. Source: elevenlabs.io/pricing.

Judge the quality yourself, in ten seconds

The honest way to compare two speech engines is with your ears, not with our adjectives. These play with no account and no card. If they are not good enough for your project, you have saved yourself a subscription.

The short version

ElevenLabs is more expressive and has cloning. We are more than ten times cheaper per hour of audio and the bill does not move when your output does. Pick the one whose weakness you can live with. If price and volume are what hurt, start with the flat-rate breakdown, which shows the arithmetic in full.

Frequently asked questions

Is kreawave cheaper than ElevenLabs?
Per hour of finished audio, by a wide margin: €0.62 on the Pro plan against roughly $10.5 on ElevenLabs' Creator tier, using their published $22 for 121,000 credits and a conversion of 58,000 characters per hour of audio. At very low volume, though, their free tier costs nothing and beats any subscription.
Is the voice quality the same?
No, and it depends on what you mean by quality. For clear, consistent narration the difference is small enough that most listeners will not name it. For directed emotional performance ElevenLabs is clearly ahead — we have no acting controls. Listen to the samples on this page before you decide.
Can I use a cheaper alternative commercially?
With ours, yes: commercial use of the audio you generate is included, and the terms say so in writing. The details, and the limits, are on our commercial use page. Check any other tool's own terms before you monetise — free tiers in particular often exclude it.
What about Murf, PlayHT or LOVO?
Same structural issue: they meter your output, so your bill scales with your production. Murf's Creator plan, for example, publishes 2 hours of voice generation a month for $29 billed monthly — roughly $14.5 an hour, or about $9.5 if you prepay a year at $19 a month.
